Experienced GP Practice Receptionist Care Navigator
We are a friendly and busy NHS GP Practice in Beckenham. We are looking for a part-time Receptionist to work with us at the practice.
We require a Medical Receptionist Care Navigator with initiative, drive, strong interpersonal, admin, and IT skills.
Previous reception/admin and/or customer service skills are desirable. Join our happy and dedicated team providing quality care to a diverse population.
You will need to be a good communicator, fluent in English, written and spoken, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; especially under pressure.
You will have a range of patient-facing and administrative tasks, so excellent organisational skills and time management are critical. A caring, empathetic character is essential.
Experience of using Emis Web and working in a GP practice is preferred.
Main duties of the job
Job Responsibilities:
- Answering telephone calls and dealing with face-to-face enquiries.
- Politely greeting patients and visitors to the surgery.
- Scheduling appointments for patients.
- Dealing with all requests in an efficient and courteous manner.
- Screening enquiries for the doctors and medical staff.
- Registering new patients at the surgery.
- Explaining the practice procedures to new patients.
- Accurately collecting information and personal details about patients.
- Updating clinical system with appointments and personal details.
- Receiving urine and blood samples and sending them off to hospital laboratories.
- Arranging prescriptions for patients.
- Maintaining a clean reception and waiting area to show a professional image.
- Opening post and forwarding it onto the relevant parties.
- Opening and locking up the surgery.
- Covering colleagues during times of annual leave.
- Ensure building security has thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.
- Keeping the reception area and waiting area, notice boards, and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.
- To have a thorough knowledge of all our Practice Policies and Procedures.
- To work in accordance with our Practice protocols.
- To maintain a computerized medical database.
- To receive deliveries into the practice and process the relevant accompanying paperwork.

St James Practice is looking for an experienced and well-rounded Care Navigator to join our friendly and innovative GP Practice. We are located in Beckenham and deliver care to over 7,000 patients, achieving high QOF performance and maintaining a Good CQC-rated service.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, motivated, and caring Receptionist who enjoys helping patients in a general practice setting. We offer NHS Pension and standard annual leave.
This role is for 19 hours per week across 3 shifts on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. There are opportunities for growth and progression.
Candidate must be available to cover annual leaves and absences.
We are looking for a good team player. Good timekeeping will be helpful as staff do shifts and appreciate being relieved on time. This role suits candidates seeking a few hours' work. Candidates living locally will enjoy the short commute.

Job responsibilities
Primary Key responsibilities:
- Process and effectively signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, depending on the presenting condition.
- Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with requests appropriately.
- Maintain and monitor all online requests/E-consults for timely action.
- Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members, and external agencies.
- Clinically code data on Emis Web System accurately.
- Good understanding of total triage (training will be offered).
- Input data into patients' healthcare records as necessary.
- Direct requests for information, e.g., SAR, insurance/solicitors' letters, and DVLA forms to the administrative team.
- Manage all queries efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and effective working area at all times.
- Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards.
- Support Care Navigators/Administrators, providing cover during staff absences.
- Scan patient-related documentation and attach scanned documents to patient healthcare records, coding accurately.
- Complete opening and closing procedures as per the duty rota.
- Produce, maintain, and participate in the Care Navigators rota.
- Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes, ensuring all training is up to date.
- Support the Patient Participation Group and health promotion activities.
- Attend formal appraisals with managers at least annually.
- Contribute to public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics).
- Train and support new reception staff.
- Oversee reception staff's annual leave, ensuring no clashes and maintaining cut-off dates.
- Restock clinical rooms and necessary supplies.
- Any other duties as required by Partners and the Practice manager.
