Job description

Role: Electrical Technician
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £33,000 - £38,000

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Technician with experience in control panel and prototype assembly to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys working on a variety of bespoke control systems and instrument rack builds. You'll support a range of industries by helping deliver tailored hardware and software solutions focused on data acquisition and automated control.

This is a new position driven by company growth and significant recent project wins. The role will involve substantial on-site installation and commissioning work across the UK, requiring flexibility to travel and stay overnight as needed. You'll need to be physically fit, as site work may involve tasks such as running cables at height or in confined spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electro-mechanical assembly of bespoke systems, both in-house and on-site

  • Build and wire control panels and 19" rack systems

  • Fabricate and assemble extruded aluminium frames

  • Complete wiring harnesses, looms, and interface boxes

  • Conduct electrical testing (continuity, functional) and fault finding

  • Carry out single and three-phase electrical installations

  • Accurately document test results, site reports, and any design modifications

  • Maintain workshop operations, including stock reporting and cleanliness

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, installation teams, and clients

Candidate Requirements


Essential Skills & Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installations/Maintenance

  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations

  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics

  • Proficiency in control panel layout, cable selection, drilling, and wiring (3-phase, LV, PLC, ELV)

  • Hands-on experience with site installations and basic quality control

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams

  • Familiarity with EPlan and electrical documentation tools

  • Practical experience in electrical fault finding and debugging

  • Knowledge of PLC-based systems (Siemens, Beckhoff) and/or NI instrumentation

  • Working knowledge of health & safety (Manual Handling, Work at Height, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989)



Desirable Certifications

  • AM2

  • ECS/JIB Card

  • City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent

  • PASMA / IPAF certification

  • (Additional training available if needed)

Location & Travel
  • Based at our main office and workshop in Sheffield

  • UK-wide travel to customer sites (up to 25% of the time), occasionally overseas (with notice)

  • Must be flexible to travel at short notice

Additional Requirements
  • Legal right to live and work in the UK

  • Full UK driving licence and own vehicle (used for work-related travel)

  • Valid passport for potential international assignments
