Full Time, Permanent Position

Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve in Kent is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team of dedicated large carnivore keepers. As part of the large carnivore team, you will be responsible for looking after our Amur Tigers, Amur leopard, Sri Lankan leopard, Brown bears, Andean bears, African lions, African painted dogs, Southern cheetah, Maned wolves and European Grey wolves.

Who Are We Looking For

We are looking for a motivated individual who will possess good animal husbandry skills and be enthusiastic about contributing to the enrichment of all the species on the section. To be considered for this role the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with large carnivores, ideally with at least 3 years’ experience working within a recognized zoological collection. You will need to be confident around all types of carnivores with a hands-on approach to the restraint and handling of animals where necessary. The successful applicant should bring a practical and safety conscious approach to working with these species. You will be expected to undertake all animal husbandry duties including feeding and cleaning as well as enclosure furnishing, maintenance tasks, gardening, butchery, and record keeping.

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must have a good level of physical fitness. A full valid driving licence is essential. It would be advantageous to possess a varied skill set including general maintenance, trailer driving, strimmer experience and a recognized Zoo animal Management qualification. Conservation education plays a big role in the park so you will also be expected to lead talks and animal encounters to the public. We provide extensive staff training and will offer the opportunity to develop your professional skills and abilities.

Contract Details

This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week, five days out of seven, including weekends and bank holidays. A flexible approach to working hours is essential in any animal job. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK. A reliable mode of transport is essential due to our remote location.
