Team overview

BII’s Impact Management team is market-leading and provides technical leadership on assessing, managing, and evaluating the impact of our investments. The team aims to push the boundaries in impact management with a world-class impact framework to deliver productive, sustainable, and inclusive impact across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. We utilize a framework aligned with the Operating Principles for Impact Management and are recognized as a Practice Leader in impact management by BlueMark.

The team focuses on BII’s Impact scoring governance and processes, innovative products, and thought leadership. It is a central function within BII’s impact group and collaborates closely with other impact areas such as Climate, Gender, ESG, and others.

Purpose

This role is a 12-15 month FTC opportunity to support the team on two key dimensions: (1) BII Strategy and (2) External engagement. The candidate will also support the Impact Management Team’s objectives as needed.

As BII implements its 5-year strategy, which is due for a refresh in 2026, the candidate will lead or support workstreams that shape the design, tools, frameworks, and processes related to Impact Management and Measurement. This requires understanding BII’s current strategy, systems, and processes, as well as upcoming priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design Refresh: Planning and managing resources & timelines to update the Impact Framework.
  • Testing and Implementation: Testing new impact measurement systems, calibrating scorecards, managing changes, and updating governance documentation.
  • Launch: Managing the launch and change management processes.

This project is expected to last 9-12 months, involving engagement with BII’s senior management and stakeholders.

The goal is to shape and expand the impact investing market to enable more impactful investments. The role reports to the Director, Investment Management, and works closely with the Manager, Investment Management.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the execution and evaluation of BII Plus impact management programs.
  • Sharing the Impact Toolkit with relevant audiences and organizing awareness sessions.
  • Providing bespoke guidance to asset owners and managers to mobilize impact investing capital, including hosting events and building partnerships.
  • Developing thought leadership products in collaboration with impact investors.

The candidate

Background

  • Experience in strategy consulting, working with senior management or boards, and preferably in impact investment.
  • Experience in designing and operationalizing impact management frameworks or ESG/sustainability frameworks.
  • Experience in thought leadership and external engagement within impact investment.
  • Strong academic credentials, preferably a Master’s in Business, Economics, or related fields.
  • Experience relevant to developing countries, especially in Africa and/or South Asia.
  • Deep networks in impact investment associations are advantageous.

Skills

  • Practical knowledge of impact management standards, especially in Inclusion, Climate, and Sustainability.
  • Understanding of private sector development and development finance outcomes.
  • Ability to make high-quality impact investment judgments and manage impact outcomes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex impact scenarios clearly.
  • Self-starter with resilience, a proactive approach, and strong stakeholder management.
