Job summary

Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Limited seeks a General Manager to provide day-to-day leadership and oversee all activities of the Charity and its estate. You will lead a professional in-house team, coordinate with the Board, and drive high standards of service and governance.

You will plan and deliver solid financial results while ensuring exceptional customer experiences during events, conferences, and community activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years in a comparable leadership role.
  • Experience managing a built environment or heritage/charitable sector.
  • Providing customer service to internal/external customers.
  • Significant experience of operating in an environment with high organisational demands.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Very strong time management and prioritisation abilities.
  • Ability to manage a team of staff and volunteers, make decisions, solve problems and be flexible.
  • Heritage or charitable sector experience is advantageous.
  • Experience of seeking grant funding and delivering outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and overseeing the daily activities of the Charity and its staff, ensuring efficient operation.
  • Working with staff and volunteers to maintain and improve the House and Park.
  • Working with the board to prepare a strategic plan.
  • Preparing an annual budget for Board approval.
  • Monitoring key financial indicators and responding appropriately.
  • Delivering the Charity’s business plan and developing new business from public/private sectors and community.
  • Representing the organisation at external events and publicity opportunities.
  • Understanding contracts and funding arrangements and ensuring services meet contractual requirements.
  • Managing resources and staff recruitment, induction, training, performance monitoring, absence, appraisals and supervisions.
  • Developing and maintaining reporting, recording, and monitoring systems.
  • Managing health and safety for staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Ensuring legal, statutory, and regulatory responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Reporting to the Board, delivering reports on deadlines, attending Board meetings and updating on service outcomes.
  • Managing complaints and learning outcomes.
  • Appraising staff performance and supporting development with HR support as needed.
  • Holding regular team meetings and promoting staff engagement.
  • Developing personal skills and staying aware of internal/external environment.
