This new role within the Council involves taking the strategic lead on all aspects of Education and Learning. We aim for every child and young person in Shetland to thrive and have every opportunity to fulfil their potential. We strive to ensure a high-quality, agile, and sustainable education service that integrates with other key services and meets the complex challenges of dispersed communities.

We seek someone with expert knowledge of education provision in schools and beyond, who can collaborate with others to create positive destinations for our young people. This role aims to draw on their strong sense of connection to the islands, retain their skills, and meet their aspirations in Shetland.

It is essential that you are a registered teacher with strong leadership skills and the capacity to manage a diverse set of responsibilities. You should be able to act quickly to make things happen, and a strategic perspective is vital for positively influencing the system. As a creative thinker, passionate about creating better life chances for young people, you will bring a fresh outlook and an appetite for innovation to our unique context.
