Job description

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and wider Berkshire county area is one of the most economically competitive in the UK. The Berkshire economy has grown at an average of 5.5% per annum in recent years and the Royal Borough is at the heart of that growth and productivity. Set on the edge of London, we are an ambitious, forward looking borough in tune with our rich cultural heritage but with ambitious plans for technology enabled service reform and place-shaping.

The opportunities are huge.

We face significant financial challenges but we won’t allow this to define us. A well-established unitary authority, we have a robust recovery plan in place and our councillors and colleagues continue to deliver high quality services and ambitious community change. Putting the council on a strong financial footing, and the concrete steps we are taking to get there, remains our priority. While there is still a way to go, we are delivering our ambitious plans to improve our resilience and transform services at pace. With a strong and stable Executive Leadership Team, we need a truly exceptional finance professional to help drive us forward, bringing experience, judgement and creative talent to bear.

You’ll have the full support of our elected members and, for the right person, this will be a career-shaping opportunity. Already recognised by your peers as a leader and innovator, you will bring an impressive track record of operating effectively in a context of challenge and scrutiny, building partnerships internally and across organisations. The strongest candidates will also demonstrate that they can win and sustain the support of central government partners, as well as motivating, leading and developing a full-spectrum resources team.
