Job summary

West Midlands Combined Authority is seeking a Chief Legal & Governance Officer to lead legal and governance at the highest level. You will provide authoritative advice on legality, probity, constitutional matters and governance, acting as a trusted partner to the Mayor, Chief Executive and Executive Board.

This is a senior public-sector role requiring extensive Monitoring Officer experience, strong leadership of professional teams, and the ability to shape strategy, culture and accountability

Qualifications

• Qualified legal professional with substantial senior-level public-sector experience.
• Direct experience as Monitoring Officer or equivalent statutory responsibilities in a complex organisation.

Responsibilities

• Provide authoritative legal and governance advice to the Mayor, Chief Executive, Members and senior officers.
• Lead and develop the legal and governance function, manage significant risk, and oversee external counsel.
