Position Description

Position Summary

A community-focused position responsible for helping to foster and safeguard a climate conducive to learning and working. The purpose of this position is to provide security and protective services oversight to the campus, ensuring the preservation of personal safety of the college community, and to cultivate positive relationships with the community at large.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge/Certifications Required
  • Basic investigative skills
  • Basic Clery/Higher Education knowledge/training
  • Intermediate computer skills – ability to learn campus software and Microsoft Office within first 30 days of employment
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required – certified within first 30 days of employment
  • Handcuffing/OC Spray/SFST Certification – must be certified in first 2 years of employment

And At Least ONE Of The Following:

  • Bicycle Safety Training/Certification
  • Bosscars Ticketing Program – Intermediate Level Knowledge
  • RAD/SAFE Instructor Certification
  • Event Management/Traffic Control Training Class/Certification
  • PA/DOH Certified EMT Certification

Additionally, At Least ONE Of The Following:

  • Emergency Responder with NIMS (National Incident Management Systems) Certification
  • Advanced Certifications/Training in Drug ID/Recognition
  • Advanced Certifications/Training in Computer Cyber Investigations
  • Advanced Training in Sexual Assault/Rape/Crimes Against Women
Experience and Skills

Special Working Conditions

Must have the ability to mentally and physically perform essential job functions which require walking, prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting (40lbs) and endure various weather conditions. Willingness to work different shifts, work weekends and holidays, some mandatory overtime required for special events; submit to Hepatitis B immunization or provide documentation of such. This position is essential; employees providing essential services must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor in the event of an emergency closing or delay.

Driving Requirements

This position requires the operation of a Messiah College owned or leased vehicle and the employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license, meet the established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures as presented in the College’s Fleet Vehicle Use Policy.

Essential Duties
  • Manage planning and execution of safety services and traffic control for special campus activities and events. Maintain oversight of student traffic control program.
  • Oversee the management of coning off lots/spaces for events, concerts, visitors, and facility services with the assistance of the Grounds Department.
  • Work with the Supervisor of Investigations and Crime Prevention
  • Provide security and protective services oversight to campus facilities.
  • Act as a resource to students, employees, and campus visitors.
  • Respond to, investigate, and accurately document crimes which are reported to the department and occur on campus property.
  • Maintain security patrol via foot, bike, and vehicle of campus grounds and satellite properties.
  • Respond to and assume operational control of incidents (campus emergencies) to ensure safety of individuals and property.
  • Conduct safety escorts for campus community members.
  • Act as liaison with outside law enforcement and other community organizations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all parking and permit regulations as outlined in college traffic code; enforce as necessary. Conduct active traffic management to ensure compliance with PA vehicle code.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Secondary Duties
  • Testify at PA Court of Common pleas, District Justice, and campus judiciary/administrative hearings.
  • Perform dispatch services as needed.
  • Conduct and assist in the execution of fire drills.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
