Job summary

City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a Cleaning Operative at Craigmillar Recycling Centre on a fixed-term contract until 30 April 2027. The role is 14 hours per week with a 3-6pm pattern Monday-Thursday and 4-6pm Friday, offering above-market rates and secure, flexible employment to balance family or study commitments.

The job involves cleaning multiple buildings, emptying bins, sanitising areas, and handling urgent cleaning tasks with opportunities for progression within Facilities Management.

Qualifications

• Experience in cleaning and facilities maintenance desirable.
• Ability to work to defined cleaning standards and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• To empty litter and recycling bins.
• Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings in a group of buildings.
• Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers and replenish washroom consumables.
• Carry out emergency and reactive cleaning as required (graffiti, spillages).
• Care for and clean equipment used for cleaning tasks.
• Support cleaning tasks across other buildings when required.
• Meet cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement.
