About your role
- Provide macro-economic forecasts for, and analytical insights into, the key economic and policy indicators for the aggregate Eurozone and individual country/sub-regional dynamics (eg. Germany, peripheral economies etc.). This includes forecasting and assessing key macro indicators, analysing government policy, interpreting data releases, and formulating firm opinions on the direction of European policy-making, with a particular emphasis on the ECB.
- Evaluate investment opportunities (from a macro perspective) within the Eurozone, and relative to the G4, by evaluating and forecasting macroeconomic data and contributing investment ideas to the broad asset management team.
- Producing thematic research pieces
- Creating a quantitative framework: developing and maintaining proprietary macroeconomic indicators for various economies
- Critical member of the Global Macro & SAA team with content inputs to global publications and Capital Market Assumptions setting process
- Be an active member and contributor to wider Fidelity forums including the Fixed Income Alpha call, Multi Asset Big Picture and other global meetings across the asset management team.
- Engage with internal clients (mainly PMs) and provide insights on macro topics on the Eurozone and wider team coverage at calls, meetings, etc.
- Support marketing and asset growth initiatives by writing white papers and creating thought leadership content.
About you
- Strong academic/degree qualification in relevant subjects (Mathematics, Economics, Computer science, Engineering, Finance etc) and experience as a macro focussed practitioner in either sell or buy-side.
- Relevant years of experience working in a research role covering G4 macro with a focus on the Eurozone
- Strong bilingual ability in an European language (both written and spoken) as well as English is preferred.
- A proven track record in writing, showing insightful and pragmatic economic analysis with an understanding of investment implications, demonstrating original thinking, conviction, open-mindedness and the ability to see a bigger picture.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Some international travel in this role can be expected.
- Strong team-playing skills, enabling effective relationships across the firm.
- Excellent quantitative skills (Eviews, Matlab or Python), including experience with a range of statistical tools and methods, as well as the ability to integrate them in original empirical work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the media and deliver thematic presentation to a range of clients in different countries.
