Job summary

Wood Mackenzie in London is seeking a Power Market Analyst to join the Power & Renewables team, focusing on developing and applying advanced power market models across European electricity markets.

You will build, maintain and enhance LP/MIP optimization models for generation dispatch, cross-border trading and market design, analyze market fundamentals, and deliver actionable insights to internal stakeholders and clients.

Qualifications

• Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Operations Research, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Economics).
• Experience in electricity market analysis or energy economics.
• Strong knowledge of LP and MIP techniques.
• Experience building mathematical models for power systems or electricity markets.
• Proficiency in Python and optimization tooling.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain optimization-based power market models for European electricity markets.
• Design and implement LP and MIP models for generation dispatch, storage, cross-border trading and market-clearing.
• Analyze market fundamentals, renewable integration, emissions costs and transmission constraints.
• Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate outcomes, asset profitability and policy impacts.
• Translate model outputs into actionable insights for stakeholders and clients.
• Improve methodologies and data workflows to enhance model accuracy and transparency.
• Collaborate across power markets, economics and policy teams to deliver high-quality research.
