Responsibilities

The European Gas and LNG Market Analyst will be part of the fundamentals team within JERAGM focussing on European Gas and the impact on LNG and LNG impacting on European regional price hubs. The individual will play a key part in the analysis supporting JERAGM’s European Gas, LNG, Coal and Japanese Power trading businesses.

The role of the analyst will be to build and update models to gain market views for traders and wider JERA businesses. A key element of the role is to have a forward view and advice on the main drivers and the latest market development - especially focussing on the impact European drivers have on the Global LNG market.

He/she will coordinate closely with other members in a collaborative and open manner, create high level overview presentations for traders, senior management and the wider community as well as to draft weekly and monthly reports in which the latest drivers are clearly communicated.

Key Role Responsibilities
  • Building tools to support insights for all countries where LNG is imported into Europe - and the price that drive these individual markets with focus on LNG but also the other drivers that impact pricing of European indexes.
  • Econometrics, PowerBI, Databricks, Python, and spreadsheet modelling experience is required
  • Work closely with traders to explain market views. Understanding the impact alternative fuels have on the market and how the European indexes drive the Atlantic curve.
  • Studying all drivers - by building the tools that impact the price of fuels
  • Supporting strategic business decisions by communicating the impact of our analysis
  • Building longer term views on likely market trends. Assisting the business with contract renegotiations and origination deals when required
  • Generate trade ideas and back these up with analytics.
  • Share insights on wider gas and relevant commodity markets. Understanding their impacts on our views and positions.
  • Scraping data and data-warehouse buildout so that a more systematic approach of modelling is possible - especially considering probabilistic and multivariable regression models.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a highly numerate subject (Master’s preferable)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in data analysis role in European Gas. LNG experience an advantage.
  • Good understanding in logistical optimisation
  • Commercial thinking and ability to see opportunities in data and in trends.
  • Solid understanding of IT infrastructure projects and implementation. Keen to enhance view on gas markets and learn about coal market dynamics and its effect on the market/prices.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; excellent PowerBI, Excel, Python and modelling skills
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
