Join Our Team as a Field Operations Engineer. Based at Chelmsford Essex Police Headquarters, this hands‑on role offers a mix of fieldwork and office‑based tasks. You'll play a vital part in supporting our Officers and staff across Essex Police sites, with some occasional visits to Kent‑based locations.
This is an exciting opportunity in our customer‑focused technical IT Field Operations team, where you will work across a wide range of technologies and applications on the Windows 10 and 11 Operating Systems. Gaining wide exposure to the latest laptop and desktop hardware and software, VC Solutions and supporting Police Officer, Staff and Volunteers across Essex.
Our IT Field Operations team delivers mobile support across Essex, covering Windows‑based workstations, laptops, peripherals, bespoke policing hardware and software, and MS Teams video‑conferencing solutions. As a Field Operations Engineer, you'll travel extensively to police stations and other sites, ensuring officers and staff have the IT tools they need. A full manual UK driving licence is essential, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You'll also assist at our drop‑in repair centre at Essex Force HQ in Chelmsford and handle IT and AV equipment moves, which involve manual handling. Supporting frontline officers and staff is critical, so patience, tact, and a positive approach are key to resolving technical issues and delivering installations and repairs.
We are looking for an adaptable, self‑motivated, and enthusiastic person to join this hard‑working Field Operations team. Ideally someone who has worked within an IT operations environment previously, preferably within a similar support role (however if this doesn't quite fit: tell us about any alternative experience or academic learning in the IT field that you have). The ability to support Microsoft products, in particular Windows 10 and 11 is key. Your aptitude to learn appropriate technical skills quickly is extremely important, as well as the ability to work alone (remotely) and as part of a team.

Standard office hours are 08:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions where you are asked to work outside of these cores hour to meet operation requirements so some flexibility would be expected.
Kent Police and Essex Police have separate salary grading systems therefore the salary for this position will be dependent on which home office force you are appointed to. This will be discussed with the successful applicant before a final offer is made.
