Job description

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking to expand our Amazon Machinery Safety Compliance Inspection team with Safety Engineers to influence the safe design and operation of Amazon's cutting-edge technology in our vast array of facilities.

One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviours and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and well-being. To support this focus area, Amazon is seeking a number of Machinery Safety Compliance Engineers to join the High-Risk Operations team. The individuals will play a critical role to ensure high standards of safety are built into systems and processes across new and legacy Fulfilment Centres, Sort Centres and Delivery Stations across Europe.

The successful candidates will conduct equipment inspections against a pre-determined set of criteria to identify if improvements are required to increase the level of safety. The role will require technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards, in PUWER/UWED applications and regulations to meet all European country requirements. Emphasis will be on sound safety engineering principles, basic machinery knowledge and the ability to engage with cross functional teams, transforming this knowledge into sound, compliant processes for the EU network.
Location: Mix of site and home working. The role will require frequent travel up to approx. 60% - 70% of the time.

Key job responsibilities
You will be supporting a wide range of projects including liaison with other critical support functions such as Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, and New Build/Real Estate teams in order to effectively deliver the required right first-time machinery and systems safety standards. This is an important safety role and will report directly to the Safety Engineering Compliance Manager (Europe).

The extent of your duties will include:

  1. Support Amazon facilities by performing suitable and sufficient risk assessments of all relevant machinery and equipment, for legacy and new launch sites.
  2. Support the development of solutions that meet Amazon high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalable, simplicity, and operational excellence.
  3. Engage and manage the involvement of the inspection team with the projects, reacting to changes to facilitate the attendance for the inspection.
  4. Complete the lifecycle of inspection by effectively reviewing corrective measures and implementing the control in the inspection tool.
  5. Provide functional working links with other critical functional teams including; Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, New Build Safety and Real Estate teams.
  6. Manage the intake of request for support and prioritise the process to suit operational requirements where needed. Support the delivery of central Health and Safety pro-active objectives.
  7. Provide input to change projects, build outs and development projects and act as a technical machinery advisor for the EU WHS team.
  8. Keep tracking data up-to-date for the inspection program. Plan and arrange own travel applying frugality and efficiency of time on sites.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience in a similar role of machinery inspection.
  2. Robotics and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) knowledge.
  3. In-depth understanding of the EU Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and its relevant harmonized standards.
  4. Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments.
  5. Demonstrable record of managing machinery safety inspections across large multi-site businesses.
  6. Credibility and be able to effectively engage and influence other functional leaders and their teams, to build buy-in to EU Health and Safety strategies and change processes.
  7. Used to operating at all levels of the organization from warehouse floor to senior management.
  8. Solid oral and written communication skills.
  9. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based tools to support system engineering and briefing/proposal development activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience of working for a Notified or Approved body for Machinery Safety.
  2. Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent, preferably gained in a low margin, high volume environment with warehousing and logistics beneficial.
  3. Formal training certification in Machinery Safety (such as CMSE).
  4. Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  5. TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer.
  6. Experience interacting with cross functional teams and managing projects with minimal supervision.
