Job summary

Mersea Homes, a successful family-run regional housebuilder operating across North Essex, is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Estimator/Surveyor to join our Commercial team. You will prepare take-offs, cost estimates and budgets for residential developments, and support pre- and post-contract activities.

We welcome someone with experience in housebuilding or residential construction, a good grasp of construction methods and materials, and strong IT skills (Excel, COINS/Bluebeam preferred).

Qualifications

• Previous surveying or estimating experience within housebuilding, residential construction, or a similar sector.
• Good understanding of construction methods and materials.
• Experience of quantity take-offs and measurement from drawings.
• COINS experience preferable.
• Bluebeam (or similar) experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• A proactive and organised approach to work.

Responsibilities

• Measuring and taking-off quantities from drawings and specifications.
• Preparing accurate cost estimates.
• Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Pricing customer extras and bespoke upgrade requests.
• Liaising closely with the Sales team regarding customer extras and variation pricing.
• Maintaining cost databases and historical pricing information.
• Assisting with budget preparation for new developments.
• Supporting Quantity Surveyors and the wider Commercial team.
• Reviewing technical drawings, identifying areas of Value Engineering or cost implications.
• Ensuring estimates are completed accurately and within required timescales.
• Providing cost advice to internal departments and management teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience within the construction or housebuilding sector who is looking to contribute to a busy and supportive commercial environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the successful applicant will be responsible for preparing accurate take-offs, cost estimates and budgets for residential developments, whilst supporting the wider Commercial team with a range of pre- and post-contract activities.
