Job summary

PPM Recruitment is seeking an experienced Estimator to join a growing surfacing and civils business in Scunthorpe. You will price tenders, perform detailed take-offs and work with clients, suppliers and operations.

The role requires previous estimating or quantity take-off experience, knowledge of tender documentation, and strong commercial awareness. A full UK driving licence and the ability to manage multiple tenders are essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in estimating, quantity take-offs or pre-construction.
• Experience pricing construction tenders and quotations.
• Ideally, experience within surfacing, highways, civils or related construction sector.
• Strong commercial awareness and excellent attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of estimating and take-off software.
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills when dealing with clients, suppliers and colleagues.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a wider commercial team.
• A full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Manage estimating opportunities from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
• Prepare detailed take-offs, quantities and cost estimates.
• Price tenders and quotations accurately and competitively.
• Review drawings, specifications and contract documentation to identify scope, risks and opportunities.
• Obtain and compare quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Maintain accurate pricing and cost databases.
• Monitor tender pipelines and conversion rates.
• Record and analyse tender outcomes and reasons for wins and losses.
• Work closely with Commercial Managers and operational teams to ensure a smooth handover of successful projects.
• Develop strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, framework partners and consultants.
• Keep up to date with market rates, legislation, standards and industry developments.
• Ensure tender submissions and estimating records are accurate and completed within required timescales.

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join an established and growing surfacing and civils business.

This is a key position within the commercial and pre-construction team, responsible for pricing a range of tenders and quotations, completing detailed take-offs and working closely with clients, suppliers and operational teams.

The successful candidate will have previous estimating or quantity take-off experience and be confident working with tender documentation, supplier quotations and commercial pricing.
