Your new company is an acoustic engineering company specialising in the design, supply, and installation of noise control hardware. Established for many years, the company has been solving complex noise and vibration problems for clients across the UK. Based in Surrey, the company provides noise control solutions for the construction industry on commercial and residential properties, in Central London and the Home Counties, but also throughout the UK. Their expertise includes architectural design, mechanical services noise control, and environmental noise impact mitigation.
In your new role as an Estimator, you will be responsible for assessing tender opportunities and documentation from contractors, consulting engineers, end users, and architects. You will liaise with stakeholders to establish project requirements and clarify information while maintaining electronic and paper project files in an organised manner. Your role will involve providing estimates for bespoke noise control solutions, issuing detailed enquiries, and assessing tender returns from the internal supply chain. You will formulate cost estimates and allowances, evaluate project risks and opportunities, and explore alternative solutions. Additionally, you will agree on pricing strategies, contract terms, and mark-ups with Directors while preparing and submitting written quotations and supporting documentation. A crucial part of the role is following up with stakeholders to gain feedback, develop proposals, and expedite orders, as well as handing over secured projects to the internal contracting team for final detailing, drawing, manufacture, and installation. You will be able to work independently, reporting to the Directors and alongside two Contracts Managers that will support you with technical training on acoustic products.
What you'll need to succeed to thrive in this role: You should be approachable and friendly, numerate and literate, and conscientious with strong self-management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively. You should possess an ability to develop practical and economically sound technical engineering solutions. Familiarity with the UK construction industry, including relationships, interfaces, procurement routes, and hierarchy, will be essential. Additionally, knowledge of mechanical engineering services principles is required, while some understanding of acoustic engineering and noise control principles would be advantageous. You will be competent at MS Office packages, SharePoint and be able to read drawings on AutoCAD. You will have previous experience with a specialist subcontractor or main contractor.
What you'll get in return is a role that offers flexibility, with opportunities for part-time or full-time employment. A competitive salary ranging from £30,000 to £45,000 is provided, along with 28 days of holiday per annum, including bank holidays. You will work a standard 40-hour week. The position is ideally suited to candidates based in Surrey or within reasonable commuting distance of London.
