Job description

Our client is a signage company based in Hertfordshire, they are currently looking for an Estimator to provide accurate, efficient, and timely estimation and cost management services across a wide range of signage projects, from tender stage through to final account. This role is key to ensuring profitable delivery by managing project costs and ensuring that budgets align with client requirements and business targets.

  • Analyse project drawings, specifications, and client briefs to prepare accurate cost estimates (material and labour requirements).
  • Prepare quotations and tender submissions for bespoke signage packages.
  • Liaise with Clients, Architects, Suppliers, and internal departments (design, production, and installation) to gather all necessary information for pricing.
  • Maintain and develop cost databases, rate libraries, and historical pricing records.
  • Contribute to value engineering and cost-saving initiatives during the tender stage.
  • Provide ongoing support to the sales team during the sales process, answering technical questions and offering solutions.
  • Prepare reports for monthly review.
  • Contribute to process improvements within the sales team, developing and implementing solutions to improve productivity and profitability.
  • Liaise with purchasing and suppliers to ensure up-to-date pricing, discuss new materials, and keep abreast of industry developments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple client enquiries during the course of the day.
  • Monitor project budgets and provide regular cost reports.
  • Prepare valuations and applications for payment.
  • Track variations and changes in project scope, ensuring these are properly documented and priced.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to review ongoing costs and ensure financial control.
  • Assist with procurement of subcontractors and materials.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve the best value.
  • Support the preparation of final accounts and settlement of any financial disputes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confident communicator with good negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of signage, construction, or manufacturing industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in construction or signage installation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in an estimating or quantity surveying role.
  • Experience in the signage industry or a related sector (e.g. shopfitting, construction, architectural metalwork) beneficial.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred for site visits.
