JOB DESCRIPTION

Brompton Cross Construction, established in 2006, is a professional residential and commercial construction company based in London. With routes serving homeowners and investor-developers across London, we are now catering to larger developers and the hotel industry, with current projects including the conversion of a historic Mayfair property into a 5-star hotel.

We are currently seeking a skilled Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our team. You will be integral to our team, while you will work alongside leading names in bespoke hotel development, bringing their vision to life as we implement detailed plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare cost analysis based on the architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required and labor involved.
• Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involve liaising with architects and engineers.
• Manage cost checks and carry out valuation on work in progress/complete.
• Negotiate and agree contracts, often worth many millions of pounds.
• Advise on the implications of different construction methods, materials for new builds, and on legal and contractual issues.
• Monitor the cost of every project and the progress of the construction, and adjust budgets as necessary.
• Work with the project manager and the site team to ensure cost control and management during the entire lifecycle of the project.

SKILLS

Experienced & competent to read drawings

• Take offs & Areas (with a high degree of skill)
• Listing of components for build and creating corresponding BOQ
• Having an eye, and a love for detail

Mathematics & excel

• Strong understanding of excel formulas, filtering and analysing data
• Pivot Analysis – Creating summaries

Estimation

• Accessing catalogue or reaching out to market to access accurate prices
• Accessing professional fees and prelims from similar projects
• Using NBS & client provided specifications

Tendering

• Tender Breakdown Schedule to develop BOQs
• Filling in tender documentation, with minimal support of line manager
• Preparing tender for senior management’s review
• Speedy yet efficient delivery
• Good planning and looking ahead, securing bids from subcontractors when necessary

Knowledge of UK construction

• Planning (relevance to external works)
• Party Wall
• Build ups

Site Visits

• Existing condition tells you extent of the necessary works
• When you reach the site, you understand if client scope is realistic, or additional works would be needed
• Estimation start up, how to present to client

REQUIREMENTS

• BSc in Quantity Surveying, B Eng Civil, or equivalent.
• A proven track record in a similar role within the construction industry.
• Strong ability to prepare budget costs, estimates, and reports.
• Solid understanding of construction, contract tendering, and commercial acumen.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Minimum 3 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor (Contractor side)
