Job summary

J Murphy & Sons is seeking an Estimator to work on major projects, including linear cables, substations, civils or overhead line, with a strong commercial acumen and NEC contract knowledge. The role involves attending start-up meetings, preparing enquiry schedules, evaluating supplier quotations and preparing BOQs using CCS Candy, Causeway and Kubus.

You will contribute to risk assessments, tender settlements and handovers, and collaborate with Contract Managers to ensure delivery viability.

Qualifications

• Proven estimating experience within Major Projects, Linear Cables, Substations, Civils or Overhead Line.
• Strong commercial awareness and a strong Negotiator.
• High understanding of construction processes and contractual knowledge (NEC).
• Experience with CCS Candy Estimating Software.
• Degree educated ideally or with a relevant substantial work history.

Responsibilities

• Attend project start-up meetings and site visits.
• Produce enquiry schedules from tender documentation, drawings and specifications.
• Identify tender deliverables required from the Project Designers.
• Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and align with project specifications.
• Prepare BOQ for scopes of projects on estimating programs (Excel, Causeway, CCS Candy & Kubus).
• Input to project risk register and attend risk meetings with Estimators, Planning Engineers, Design Co-ordinators and Clients representatives.
• Attend tender price settlement meetings with the tender team and Estimating Manager.
• Attend Tender Handover meetings with Estimators and projects team.
• Assist the Estimating Manager in promoting interaction to develop solutions and estimates.
• Make tender amendments based on client feedback.
• Review contract details with Contract Manager / Senior Management to ensure delivery capability.
• Review tender documents assessing scope and risks and provide feedback to Estimating Manager.
