Job summary

Story Contracting Limited is seeking an Estimator to join the Pre-Construction Team at the Tamworth office, supporting the South & Central Team. You will contribute to tender development, cost estimation, and competitive bid preparation.

The role requires a civil engineering or construction background, strong Excel skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. Client-facing communication and collaboration with internal teams are essential.

Qualifications

  • Civil engineering, construction or commercial background in Railways, Highways, Water or Energy sectors.
  • Proficient in Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in client-facing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate project costs and resources; prepare tender submissions to minimise risk and maximise profit.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, contractors and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams for clear project handovers and communication.
  • Support value engineering with engineering, planning and commercial teams.
  • Assist development of junior members of the estimating team.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes to strengthen work-winning capabilities.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Estimator to join our Team based in our Tamworth office and supporting the South & Central Team.

The Role

As an Estimator you will be working in the Pre-Construction Team, playing a vital role in supporting the tender process, helping to create competitive bids and maximise our pipeline.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys problem solving, building relationships and contributing to the region’s success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating project costs and resources, preparing tender submissions that minimise risk and maximise profit.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors and suppliers.
  • Work effectively with internal teams to ensure smooth communication and clear project handovers
  • Support value engineering initiatives and collaborate with engineering, planning and commercial teams
  • Support the development of junior members of the estimating team.
  • Support continuous improvement by enhancing processes and helping strengthen our work‑winning capabilities
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Has a civil engineering, construction or commercial background working on projects in the Rail, Highways, Water, or Energy Sectors.
  • Has proficient skills in Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Has excellent attention to detail & a methodical approach to work
  • You’re comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment, managing multiple priorities and projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence in client‑facing environments.
