Job Description

Position Overview:

The Estimator will have the ability to strategically manage and coordinate the Estimating function with Quality, Materials, Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, Financial, and Sales functions. The Estimator will approach estimating with a systemic mindset and always strive for accuracy, continuous improvement, and evolving job knowledge. The Estimator will analyze blueprints, specs, proposals, and other documentation to prepare cost estimates for parts, sub-assemblies, raw materials, labor, and outside processing to assist in producing a successful outcome for the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Produce the most accurate estimation of cost possible at the time of receipt of RFQ and manage the profit discussion through final submission back to the sales department.
  2. Manage the costing feedback loop to ensure estimates are accurately compared to actual costs on projects that are won, to improve accuracy on future bids.
  3. Use drawings and specification information in customer requests for quotes to determine labor, material, and process hour and cost estimates for detailed parts, assemblies, and tooling.
  4. Coordinate with Materials department for requests for quotes from outside suppliers for parts, materials, hardware, standards, and surface processes.
  5. Maximize profitability via value engineering suggestions to customers and knowledge of current and future market conditions to identify new business opportunities.
  6. Maintain historical databases for core competencies and typical products.
  7. Prepare data for reports, presentations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Develop, modify, and maintain policies, processes, procedures, and performance metrics related to the Estimating function.
  9. Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines, policies, and laws determined by the company, state, and federal authorities.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Attributes:

  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize activities within an environment of fast-paced periods of competing deadlines and fluctuating workload.
  • Team player with a can-do attitude.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications including Catia and Enovia.
  • Knowledge of customer RFQ document types.
  • Extensive knowledge of various materials, hardware, and tooling, as well as machining, assembly, heat treat testing, and related outside processes.
  • Knowledge of cost estimating methods, from detailed part bids through large-scale quotations.
  • Strong project management, time management, business, and financial acumen.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills necessary to converse with inter-departmental staff, including senior management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and MRP systems.

Qualifications:

  • Five years’ experience estimating in the aerospace manufacturing industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field (or equivalent years of experience).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, quality control, production and inventory control, and AS9100.

The Estimator compensation range for onsite California and/or Washington applicants is $75,000-90,000, commensurate with experience. Other site ranges may differ.
