Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment LTD is seeking an Estimator for a specialist conservation contractor in London, pricing schemes mainly within the M25 and along the south coast. Projects typically range from £1 million to £3 million, with larger schemes up to £10–£15 million, and occasional smaller repairs.

The role involves reading tender information, pricing trades, sending enquiries to subcontractors, site visits, take-offs from drawings, and preparing schedules of works.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of construction experience, ideally within masonry and the conservation sector.
• Knowledge of stonework, brickwork, roofing and first fix carpentry/joinery.
• Experience in refurbishment or conservation of external fabric preferred.
• Construction-related degree preferred, or an HNC/HND with strong industry experience.
• CSCS card; UK driving licence and access to a vehicle; CTC security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Read and analyse tender information to fully understand project requirements.
• Review the full scope of works and mark up the various trades.
• Price in-house trades, accounting for labour, plant and materials.
• Send out enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers for quotes.
• Meet clients, surveyors and architects on site and review works against tender documents.
• Visit sites to assess scope and review subcontractors' pricing.
• Take off measurements from architectural drawings and on-site dimensions.
• Prepare bespoke Schedules of Works and Bills of Quantities.
• Create tender stage programmes using Microsoft Project.
• Assist with quality submissions and tender compliance.
• Follow up tenders and hand over secured projects to contracts team.

Job description

Pricing the repair of a listed church or a scheduled monument is a world away from standard new build, and this specialist conservation contractor is looking for an Estimator who wants exactly that kind of work. Trading since 1990, the business is a leading name in the conservation and repair of historic buildings across London and the South East.

Based in the office, you will join a busy estimating department pricing schemes mainly within the M25 and along the south coast. Most projects fall between £1 million and £3 million, alongside smaller specialist repairs and larger schemes of up to £10 to £15 million.

Heritage experience is a real advantage, although candidates from a main contractor or refurbishment background with a genuine interest in historic buildings will also be considered.

Estimator Salary & Benefits

Estimator Requirements

• Around 5 to 10 years of construction experience, ideally within masonry and the conservation sector
• Good working knowledge of stonework, brickwork, roofing and first fix carpentry and joinery
• Experience in the refurbishment or conservation of external fabric is highly preferable
• Construction-related degree preferred, or an HNC/HND backed by strong industry experience
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Project
• Causeway Estimating and Bluebeam Take-off experience desirable but not essential
• Valid CSCS card
• Able to pass Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance
• Full, clean UK driving licence and own car preferable
• Permanent right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available
