Our Client:

Exciting opportunity with a family-owned business with over forty years of experience in the construction industry. Specialising in both high-end residential and commercial projects across London and the Home Counties, focusing on new builds, renovations, and refurbishments. Their commitment to teamwork, integrity, and loyalty ensures that all projects meet the highest standards and building regulations.

Role Overview:

Our client are in the for a proactive and detail-oriented Estimator with 2 5 years of experience to join our dynamic pre-construction team. This role is ideal for a confident professional who has progressed beyond entry-level estimating and is now confident managing tenders independently or with minimal supervision.

You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates across a variety of construction projects, working closely with commercial and project teams to contribute to successful bid submissions and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tender Preparation: Lead the preparation and submission of competitive tenders, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Quantity Take-Offs: Produce detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns from architectural and engineering drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., Bluebeam, Conquest, CostX).
  • Subcontractor & Supplier Management: Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring coverage across all packages and alignment with the project scope.
  • Cost Planning & Benchmarking: Develop project cost plans and conduct cost comparisons using historical data and market trends to ensure value engineering opportunities are identified.
  • Risk & Value Analysis: Analyse tender documents to identify risks, exclusions, and opportunities for cost savings or value enhancement.
  • Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Engage with clients, consultants, and internal teams during the pre-construction phase to clarify scope, attend tender meetings, and present estimates where required.
  • Site Assessments: Attend site visits to assess existing conditions, logistics, and potential cost implications.
  • Post-Tender Handover: Support the commercial and project delivery teams by providing comprehensive handover documentation following tender award.
  • Estimating Process Improvement: Contribute to the continual improvement of estimating procedures, cost libraries, and tender tracking systems.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction techniques, building regulations, procurement routes, and contractual arrangements.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in estimating software (e.g., CostX, Conquest, Bluebeam), MS Excel, and document control platforms (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore).
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex tender documentation and perform detailed cost analysis.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective engagement with suppliers, colleagues, and clients.
  • Time Management: Capable of managing multiple tenders simultaneously and working to tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in quantity take-offs and pricing.
  • Team Collaboration: Able to work both independently and collaboratively with pre-construction and delivery teams.
Education and Experience:
  • Batchelors or Masters degree qualification relevant to construction/ or related training is preferred.
  • Min 2 years' experience in construction estimating or a related field is beneficial but not required.
  • Location key, based in Barnet office (Mon-Friday).
