WasteRecruit is recruiting an Estimating Engineer for an environmental engineering business in Kent. You will engage with customer requirements, develop engineered solutions, and prepare accurate commercial proposals.
You will work with sales and engineering, attend meetings, interpret enquiries, and keep up to date with technologies, energy from waste and odour-control systems. Hybrid or remote work is available; early days in Kent offices may be required.
Benefits:
WasteRecruit is supporting an environmental engineering companywith the recruitment of an Estimating Engineer to join its environmental engineering business in Kent.
This is a varied technical and commercial role for someone who enjoys getting underneath a customer requirement, developing the right engineering solution and turning that solution into an accurate, persuasive proposal.
Supplying specialist products, technologies and installation services into the wastewater, Energy from Waste, municipal waste and industrial sectors in the UK and internationally, this company already has a wide client base and solid track record.
This is considerably broader than simply producing prices from a specification. You will become involved early in customer enquiries, work alongside the other engineering specialists to develop technically compliant solutions and then take responsibility for estimating and presenting the commercial proposal.
Working closely with the Head of Sales and the engineering team, you will:
Receive and interpret customer enquiries, specifications and technical requirements.
Work with internal specialists to develop appropriate engineered solutions.
Prepare accurate project estimates using internal and supplier information.
Produce clear, detailed technical and commercial proposals.
Attend customer meetings, both virtually and in person.
Respond to technical questions and requests for further information.
Provide technical sales support and help progress opportunities through to order.
Work collaboratively across sales and engineering to ensure proposed solutions meet customer requirements.
Keep up to date with relevant technologies, market developments and regulatory changes.
We are looking for someone who combines good engineering judgement with the ability to communicate confidently with customers.
You should have:
A minimum HNC-level qualification in a MEICA discipline, process engineering, chemical engineering or a closely related field.
Previous experience within estimating, proposals, technical sales or another commercially focused engineering role.
The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional technical proposals.
The confidence to communicate both technically and commercially.
Good Microsoft Office and general IT skills.
The ability to work effectively within a relatively small, collaborative technical business.
Knowledge of Energy from Waste, anaerobic digestion or odour-control systems would be particularly useful, although CSO will also consider candidates with strong transferable engineering experience.
This role sits at the point where engineering, customer need and commercial decision-making meet.
You will have the opportunity to work across different technologies and applications rather than repeatedly estimating one narrow product, with direct exposure to customers, engineering specialists and live commercial opportunities.
For an engineer who wants to retain a strong technical element while developing greater customer and commercial responsibility, it offers an interesting next step.
The role is hybrid or home based, although regular attendance atthe offices in Kent will be required in the early days of the role.
