Job summary

MTS Recruitment Limited is looking for an experienced Estimating Engineer in Bishop's Stortford. You will prepare quotations, costings and bids for CNC milling and turning work, interfacing with engineering, purchasing and operations to ensure accurate, competitive bids.

The role covers estimating, costing, supplier liaising and bid management in a precision aerospace environment. Permanent position with a competitive salary.

Responsibilities

• Estimate manufacturing times and costs for CNC 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis milling and CNC turning work packages
• Produce accurate sales and manufacturing cost estimates in response to customer enquiries
• Obtain material, bought-out component and treatment prices and lead times
• Determine the most suitable machine tools and manufacturing methods for each component
• Review engineering drawings, technical specifications and 3D models
• Prepare and submit quotations, tenders and compliant bids
• Interpret customer requests for proposals and ensure all bid requirements are addressed
• Work with engineers, purchasing teams, site managers and subject-matter experts to confirm set-ups, routings and technical requirements
• Support the Bid/No Bid process and prioritise estimating workloads
• Maintain and update the bid register
• Use estimating and quotation data to identify opportunities to improve bid success
• Act as a commercial point of contact between the business and its customers
• Ensure customer expectations are met and identify opportunities for improvement
• Follow company processes and procedures at all times

We are recruiting for an experienced Estimating Engineer to join a well-established precision engineering and aerospace manufacturing business based in Bishop's Stortford.

The successful Estimating Engineer will play a key role in preparing quotations and tenders, determining the manufacturing costs of components and working closely with engineering, purchasing and operational teams to ensure bids are accurate, competitive and commercially viable.

The Role

The Successful Candidate

• Previous experience working as an Estimating Engineer, Costing Engineer, Manufacturing Estimator or similar
• Strong experience estimating CNC milling and CNC turning operations
• Knowledge of 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining
• Previous hands-on CNC milling or CNC turning experience
• Experience within aerospace, precision engineering or a similar high-quality manufacturing environment
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Able to review and interpret 3D models using suitable viewing software
• Experience estimating work involving titanium, aluminium and steel
• Able to obtain quotations for materials, aerospace-grade specifications, treatments and subcontract processes
• Experience working with suppliers and procurement teams to secure competitive and long-term pricing
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
• Experience using CATIA would be beneficial
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Proactive, organised and able to manage multiple quotations to deadlines
• Capable of producing accurate work to a consistently high standard
