Job description

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated, reliable, and flexible Estates Officer (M&E) to join the Estates Management Team. The role involves advising on technical building maintenance matters, supervising the Maintenance Team, and liaising with Trust departments to ensure smooth maintenance operations with minimal impact on patient care.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of infrastructure services, current legislation, and hold an HNC/HND or higher qualification in Engineering or Building Services Engineering, with a focus on electrical and mechanical services. Relevant experience is required to perform the duties effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting the Estates Manager with engineering plant and equipment management.
  2. Ensuring effective maintenance and breakdown services.
  3. Managing delegated service contracts.
  4. Supervising team leaders, technicians, and craftspersons.
  5. Implementing policies related to Permit-to-Work, Hazard Notices, RAMS, and Health & Safety.
  6. Acting as Authorised Person for disciplines such as Water, LV, HVAC, and Lifts.
  7. Planning minor schemes of maintenance, renewal, and improvements.
  8. Participating in out-of-hours emergency on-call services.
  9. Analyzing energy savings and liaising with the Sustainability Manager.
  10. Conducting site surveys, inspections, and preparing drawings/specifications.
  11. Ensuring compliance with HTMs and statutory health & safety regulations.
