MMP Consultancy – Estates Manager (NHS Trust, North West London)

Temporary 3‑month role (ongoing) starting ASAP. £34ph umbrella, 37.5h week.

Overview

Lead engineering operations, ensuring full compliance with NHS Guidelines, HTMs and statutory requirements. Act as Authorised Person (AP) for relevant HTM and HSE functions.

Responsibilities
  • High‑quality management of engineering services – plant, equipment, staff, buildings.
  • Statutory compliance – maintenance policies, Permit to Work systems, regulatory documentation.
  • Manage and review maintenance contracts – high standards, timely delivery.
  • Support Capital Projects Team, architects, consultants on major schemes.
  • Lead capital works projects – planning to supervision.
  • Contractor control processes – adherence to Trust safety requirements.
  • Respond to emergencies, unplanned work, urgent operational issues across the hospital site.
  • Safety oversight in workshops – risk assessments, positive industrial relations.
  • Financial management – departmental budgets, procurement, costing.
  • Engineering Management Information Systems, Building Management System maintenance.
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance system (BACKTRAQ) monitoring, updating, improvement.
  • Reports, feasibility studies, project documents, long‑term maintenance plans preparation.
  • Estate property inspections – engineering conditions, future capital and maintenance needs.
  • Disability Discrimination Act compliance – related upgrade works management.
  • On‑call duties – guidance to clinical staff and senior managers.
  • Internal meetings, training sessions, technical briefings, statutory updates participation.
Requirements
  • Highly knowledgeable in engineering services within a healthcare (or similarly complex) environment.
  • Experience leading teams, managing contractors, maintaining compliance.
  • Skilled in project management, problem solving, budget control.
  • Able to work under pressure, respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Committed to high safety, quality, service delivery standards.
  • Inspection and survey experience in challenging environments (confined spaces, ducts, scaffolds).
  • Effective interaction with patients, visitors, staff, including emotionally difficult situations.
  • Uphold Trust commitments to safeguarding, Infection Prevention & Control, Health & Safety, sustainability, equality, confidentiality.
  • Participation in the Estates Management on‑call rota.
