Person specification
Essential criteria
  • Full car driving licence
Qualifications
  • Apprenticeship in relevant core trade with a minimum of a City and Guilds with advanced craft certificate or BTEC, ONC in relevant building maintenance trade.
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in Wood Working Machinery
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in general building maintenance, outside core trade of painting/decorating, carpentry, joinery.
  • Good understanding of the relationship of other craftsmen’s work to their own.
  • Experience of maintenance carpentry and building in a range of settings.
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in a complex building maintenance environment (desirable).
  • Basic electrical safety training.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or gas systems in NHS buildings.
  • Experience working in healthcare environments.
  • Joinery ability.
Skills
  • Ability to interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and specifications independently.
  • Ability to set out new work or set up new production using relevant instruments and machinery.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Desirable: Ability to diagnose and repair faults in electrical systems, support engineering emergencies, glaze windows, and fit/maintain locks.
Knowledge
  • Health & Safety training.
  • Good knowledge of carpentry and joinery techniques.
