The Woodland Trust is looking for an Estate Manager in our South East England team, to lead the Estate Team in managing a diverse and extensive woodland estate delivering for nature recovery and trees for all. Our South East region covers Kent, East and West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Greater London (south of R.Thames).

The Role:

  • The Estate Manager is one of two estate managers within the South East team who ensure the Estate is managed to the highest professional standards and in accordance with the Woodland Trust’s management approach, making a significant contribution to the Trust’s wider strategy and objectives.
  • This role will manage a team of professional site managers and be a member of the South East England Management Team, guiding and supporting the development and delivery of the Trust's work programme.
  • The Estate Manager will ensure that resources are allocated for maximum impact for our cause and will oversee a complex delivery programme of forestry, conservation, access and safety work.
  • Lead the management of the Trust's woodland estate across the region and ensure that it is managed to the highest professional standards and in accordance with Woodland Trust's management approach, policies and standards. This includes ensuring compliance with UKWAS and FISA standards
  • A company car will be provided in this role.


The Candidate:

  • You’ll have an enthusiasm for the environment and share our core values-Grow Together, Explore, Focus and Make it Count.
  • You will be an experienced forester or land manager with knowledge and experience of native woodland management and ecology
  • You will have experience leading, developing and inspiring professional teams and managing complex work programmes and budgets
  • You will want to champion compliance and best practice in woodland management and health & safety on the Trust's Estate
  • You will understand how to prioritise for impact in relation to organisational strategy and take clear decisions
  • You’ll have a collaborative approach, with the ability to work with multiple teams, building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders effectively. You will be a strong influencer you will be confident in representing the Trust in dealings with woodland owners, farmers, landowners and stakeholders.
  • This role requires the successful candidate to live in the region with regular travel around South East England and UK. A full clean UK driving licence is required.
  • We would be looking for the successful candidate to ideally start in Autumn.
