Job description

Do you have experience within estate management? Are you interested in working with one of the most unique visitor attractions in York?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is the largest and most complex museum estate in the country which also houses a scientific collection of international significance. The Estate Operations team has responsibility for ensuring that the SMG Estate meets all legislative and operational requirements, is consistently well maintained, efficiently run and delivers an excellent customer experience to staff and visitors alike. In addition to overseeing the maintenance of building assets both historic and new, there is also a significant role for the team in ensuring full integration with Masterplan and Capital projects across the portfolio and to sustain those new developments once project delivery is completed.

To support this work, we are now looking for an Estate Manager for the National Railway Museum in York on a full-time permanent basis.

About the role

As Estate Manager, you will have primary responsibility for the operational management of the museum/site buildings and its associated facilities and contracts. You will be a source of subject matter expertise to a range of stakeholders at the museum/site, and will lead and motivate the local Estate team, ensuring the highest standards of work are attained. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the conservation, planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance of the museum's/sites buildings and structures is planned and delivered through the term maintenance contract and all other contract arrangements.

About you

As Estate Manager, you will bring experience of maintenance of building services and fabric, with a BIFM or equivalent qualification. You'll hold a thorough working knowledge of M&E systems, construction and fabric, and a knowledge of fire regulations and all relevant Health and Safety legislation. Estates hold key stakeholder relationships with other internal departments such as Operations, Collections and Public Programme, so a collaborative and customer-focused approach to work will be essential.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
