Job summary

Harewood Estate near Leeds is seeking a Forester to join the Forestry Team, focusing on tree maintenance, woodland management and pest control. The role is outdoors in all weather, physically demanding, reporting to the Forestry Manager, with emphasis on safe operating of chainsaws and machinery.

You will work on a 10-year woodland management plan, support habitat restoration, invasive species control and boundary maintenance, with opportunities for training and career development.

Qualifications

• Experience in woodland or estate management.
• CS30 and CS31 chainsaw certificates; CS32 for medium trees.
• Experience applying risk assessments and health and safety rules.
• Self-motivated with good time management.
• Lantra PTI or equivalent qualification.
• Lantra uprooted/windblown trees qualification or equivalent.
• Experience with tractors/forwarders and related machinery.
• Ability to operate multiple attachments (strimmers, polesaws, trailers, chippers, ATV).
• Firewood processing and basic machinery repairs.
• GIS mapping software experience.

Responsibilities

• Restock and establishment work including hand planting and tree guard installation.
• Clear and maintain trees; high pruning, felling.
• Estate maintenance of vegetation and trees along roads and paths.
• Assist with safe clearance of fallen trees after storms.
• Operate and maintain forestry machinery safely.
• Assist with extraction and forwarding of timber to central locations.
• Support creation of new woodland and wood pasture restoration.
• Utilise woodland pigs (Oxford Sandy and Blacks).
