Job description

ESOL Tutor

Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Flexible Part-Time Hours Small Group Teaching Competitive Hourly Rate

Are you a patient, empathetic educator who believes that building confidence is just as important as teaching language skills?

Monarch Education is working with a local authority-led community education programme in Kidderminster to recruit a Community ESOL Tutor for a pilot project supporting adult learners who are new to the UK.

This is a unique opportunity to support asylum seekers, refugees, and other adult learners with very limited English language skills through informal, welcoming ESOL sessions designed to build confidence, encourage community integration, and help learners navigate everyday life in the UK.

Rather than delivering a rigid curriculum, we're looking for someone who can create a supportive environment where learners feel comfortable practising English, asking questions, building social connections, and developing the confidence to engage with their local community.

Why Apply?
  • Competitive hourly rate
  • Flexible, community-based teaching
  • Small group sizes (typically fewer than 12 learners)
  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact on people's lives and integration into the local community
  • Minimal administration and paperwork
  • Support from an experienced local authority representative who will be present during sessions
  • Informal and engaging teaching environment
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of a growing community programme
  • Dedicated support from Monarch Education
Essential Requirements

To be considered for this Community ESOL Tutor role in Kidderminster, you must have:

  • Experience delivering ESOL, English, Adult Education, Functional Skills English, or literacy support
  • Experience supporting beginner-level learners or individuals with limited English language skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, approachable, and empathetic teaching style
  • The ability to adapt sessions based on learner needs and emerging discussions
  • Strong safeguarding awareness
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
  • The right to work in the UK

An ESOL qualification is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong relevant experience in adult education and language support.

About the Programme

This pilot project has been designed to support adult learners aged 18 to 65, with the majority expected to be in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s.

Many learners will be new arrivals to the area, including asylum seekers and refugees who have very limited English and may be accessing structured language learning for the first time.

Sessions will be delivered in community venues across Worcestershire, with the pilot phase initially taking place in Kidderminster. Future delivery may expand into surrounding locations including Bewdley and Stourport.

Group sizes will remain small to encourage participation, confidence-building, and meaningful interaction between learners.

What Makes This Role Different?

This isn't a role focused on targets, assessments, or intensive curriculum delivery.

The priority is creating a welcoming and inclusive space where learners can:

  • Practise conversational English
  • Develop confidence communicating in everyday situations
  • Meet and connect with others in their local community
  • Learn about services and support available to them
  • Ask questions about life in the UK in a safe and supportive environment

We're looking for a tutor who understands that some of the most valuable learning moments happen through conversation, trust, and relationship-building.

The Role

As a Community ESOL Tutor, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and informal ESOL sessions for beginner-level adult learners
  • Adapt teaching to meet varying language abilities and confidence levels
  • Encourage participation, discussion, and practical language development

  • Support learners to gain confidence using English in everyday situations
  • Work collaboratively alongside community outreach professionals attending sessions
  • Identify and report any safeguarding concerns appropriately
