Kingston College is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support and mentor adult learners studying on the Adult ESOL programmes across the School.
You will support learners to access the curriculum through a mix of in-class support, 1-1 support, and assignment workshops to ensure successful qualification completion. This may include helping learners develop skills in report writing, essay writing, time management, reading, writing, and speaking. You will work with learners considered 'at risk' due to personal or family commitments that may impact their achievement, as well as those with communication and social interaction difficulties, to develop resilience, confidence, and independence.
We prefer candidates with experience of working successfully with young people and/or adults in a supporting or mentoring role within an educational setting, especially regarding curriculum support and supporting individuals with social and emotional needs. A willingness to undertake relevant staff development is essential. You should be able to use initiative, organise and prioritise tasks, and take guidance from support managers and academic staff.
You should have a good level of computer literacy with sufficient administrative skills to maintain high-quality records of learner progress, set SMART targets based on the Individual Learning Plan, and record comments in Pro-Monitor to a high standard. Effective communication skills are essential, with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
The successful candidate will be eligible for any salary increase resulting from the annual cost of living review, which will be implemented in the new academic year.
Closing date for applications: 28th June 2025.
Benefits include an excellent pension scheme (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities, professional development opportunities, and a salary sacrifice cycle-to-work scheme. The benefits are pro-rated for part-time staff.
