Job summary

Job description

We are recruiting for an ESG Reporting Lead to join our Head Office in Gerrards Cross.

This is a key specialist role responsible for managing the increasing volume, complexity and regulatory requirements associated with Environmental, Social and Governance reporting across our UK and international operations.

The ESG Reporting Lead will coordinate, validate and consolidate ESG information from projects, business units and central functions, ensuring that reporting is accurate, consistent, auditable and aligned with applicable regulatory and stakeholder requirements.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge of ESG regulation, carbon accounting, data governance and assurance. They will play an important role in interpreting evolving requirements, establishing robust reporting methodologies and maintaining the controls and evidence required to support internal and external assurance.

Key Responsibilities
ESG Reporting and Consolidation
  • Lead the coordination and consolidation of ESG data and disclosures across UK and international operations.
  • Manage the preparation of ESG reporting for internal management, clients, regulators and other external stakeholders.
  • Establish consistent reporting methodologies, definitions and processes across projects, functions and jurisdictions.
  • Ensure ESG disclosures are complete, accurate, timely and supported by appropriate evidence.
  • Maintain a clear reporting calendar to ensure regulatory, corporate and client reporting deadlines are met.
Regulatory and Technical Expertise
  • Monitor and interpret emerging ESG legislation, reporting standards and disclosure requirements.
  • Assess the impact of regulatory developments on the organisation and recommend changes to reporting processes and controls.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders on ESG reporting requirements and best practice.
  • Support the organisation in preparing for new and evolving ESG disclosure obligations across relevant markets.
Carbon Accounting
  • Oversee the collection, validation and consolidation of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental performance data.
  • Support the development and maintenance of carbon accounting methodologies in accordance with recognised standards and protocols.
  • Ensure appropriate treatment of organisational boundaries, emissions factors, Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the quality, consistency and traceability of carbon and environmental data.
Data Governance and Controls
  • Develop and maintain robust ESG data controls, validation processes and reporting procedures.
  • Work with project teams and central functions to improve the quality and consistency of source data.
  • Establish clear ownership, definitions and responsibilities for ESG data across the organisation.
  • Identify reporting risks, data gaps and control weaknesses, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support the development of ESG reporting systems, tools and data management processes.
Assurance and Audit Readiness
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trails to support internal and external assurance.
  • Coordinate ESG data and evidence requirements for auditors, assurance providers and other third parties.
  • Respond to assurance findings and lead improvements to reporting processes and controls.
  • Ensure methodologies, calculations, assumptions and supporting evidence are appropriately documented and retained.
Stakeholder Management
  • Build effective working relationships with project teams, finance, procurement, HR, commercial, environmental, sustainability and other central functions.
  • Provide clear guidance and training to colleagues responsible for collecting or submitting ESG information.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to communicate reporting requirements, risks and performance.
  • Support responses to client ESG information requests, questionnaires and disclosures where required.
  • Drive improvements in ESG reporting processes, governance, data quality and automation.
  • Develop templates, guidance documents and standard operating procedures to improve reporting consistency.
  • Support the implementation of ESG reporting technology and data platforms where appropriate.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing training and development in ESG reporting, regulation, carbon accounting and assurance.
Skills and Experience
  • Relevant professional experience in ESG, sustainability, environmental reporting, corporate reporting, carbon accounting or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of ESG reporting requirements, regulations and recognised reporting frameworks.
  • Practical experience of greenhouse gas accounting and carbon reporting.
  • Experience coordinating and consolidating complex datasets from multiple business units, projects or locations.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, controls, validation and audit evidence.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audit and assurance processes.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory or technical requirements and translate them into practical reporting processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical requirements to non-specialist stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, property or another project-based environment.
  • Experience managing ESG reporting across multiple countries or jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with relevant ESG and sustainability reporting frameworks and regulations, such as the GHG Protocol, ISSB, TCFD, CSRD, ESRS, UK Sustainability Reporting Standards or equivalent requirements.
  • Experience using ESG, carbon accounting or sustainability data management systems.
  • Experience working with external auditors or ESG assurance providers.
  • Relevant professional qualification or training in sustainability, ESG reporting, environmental management, carbon accounting, finance, audit or data governance.
