The Role:

As a principal quantitative analyst, you will combine investment management and technical expertise with a passion for delivering results for the Asset Manager, Asset Owner, and Plc. The ESG Quantitative Analyst will play a pivotal role in integrating data science and sustainability to gain insights into companies’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, from design to implementation. You will contribute to sustainability decisions, risk management, and compliance by applying cutting-edge methods. Working closely with investment teams under the CIO of Equities, Multi-Asset, and Sustainability, you will gain enriching experience across public and private markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implement the latest data science and ESG methods to develop proprietary, scalable assessments of companies’ ESG alignment, including framework development, calculations, and best practices in software development and architecture.
  2. Support and enhance existing in-house tools, and develop new capabilities.
  3. Create Python APIs to facilitate access to ESG data and analysis for systems and researchers.
  4. Conduct proprietary sustainability analyses for asset management, asset owner, Plc, or client requests.
  5. Develop innovative tools leveraging natural language processing and AI techniques.
  6. Ensure cohesion and consistency across M&G Group sustainability data for Plc and Asset Owner entities.
  7. Support the broader Stewardship & Sustainability agenda through data analytics initiatives.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Strong academic background with a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics from a leading university.
  • Extensive programming experience, preferably in Python, with proven expertise as a full-stack developer working with front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular) and back-end (Python) technologies.
  • Knowledge of relevant database technologies (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Oracle, MS SQL Server).
  • Several years of applying sophisticated analytics and quantitative techniques to support investment strategies and develop solutions.
  • Deep understanding of quantitative methods, statistics, and econometrics; experience with natural language processing or AI is a plus.
  • Proven track record in developing data analytics tools.
  • Ability to support research teams in developing new models and products for competitive advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Personal qualities include integrity, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and commitment to our mission.
