Job description

ESG Finance Analyst

The Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Finance Analyst will support the company’s sustainability strategy, ensuring compliance with reporting ESG requirements under regulations and frameworks include CSRD, the EU Taxonomy, ISSB, among others. This role focuses on integrating sustainability into business practices, ensuring transparent and accurate reporting, and aligning company operations with evolving global sustainability standards. The ESG Finance Analyst works closely with internal teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to support these objectives.

The role of an ESG Finance Analyst is pivotal for companies looking to align with global sustainability standards and meet investor and regulatory demands. It requires a blend of compliance knowledge, organisation skills, and data management expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Compliance & Reporting:
    • Support the preparation of regulatory filings (such as CSRD, EU Taxonomy reports) and voluntary reports (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
    • Be responsible for the preparation and submission of non-financial disclosures, ensuring they meet reporting requirements and are aligned with global sustainability standards (ISSB, GRI, SASB, etc.).
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving legislation and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
    • Gather and validate data for climate and environmental disclosures, including GHG emissions, energy use, and other sustainability metrics.
    • Assist in maintaining a centralized inventory for climate and environmental disclosure metrics.
  2. Data Collection & Analysis:
    • Collect, collate, and validate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data to support corporate reporting requirements.
    • Contribute to process improvements that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of data collection, validation, and disclosure.
    • Work with cross-functional teams (HR, finance, operations, etc.) to gather accurate information on carbon emissions, diversity metrics, resource usage, etc.
    • Measure sustainability performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
  3. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
    • Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulators, investors, and sustainability-focused groups.
    • Help prepare sustainability reports, presentations, and other communication materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Partner with internal teams (e.g., sustainability, risk, legal) to ensure data consistency and alignment across reporting deliverables.
    • Record and document ESG-related risks and opportunities that could impact the business and evaluate strategies to mitigate or capitalize on them.
    • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental laws and reporting standards.
    • Monitor industry trends, assess emerging risks, and report back to senior management so that the ESG strategy can be managed accordingly.
  4. Training & Internal Awareness:
    • Educate and train employees on sustainability goals, ESG practices, and CSRD reporting requirements.
    • Promote a sustainability culture within the organization.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of ESG Standards: Strong understanding of ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP, ISSB) and their application in corporate environments.
  • CSRD Expertise: Awareness and knowledge of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and how it applies to corporate reporting.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to collect, analyse, and report ESG and sustainability data.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating reports, presenting findings, and supporting stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Experience operating under multiple projects with tight deadlines, particularly around data collection and reporting cycles.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to engage and inform a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental regulations and industry standards, as well as emerging trends in ESG.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: A degree in sustainability, environmental science, business management, finance, or a related field. A master’s degree or specific certifications in sustainability (e.g., CFA ESG, GRI Certification) is a plus.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in sustainability, ESG, corporate governance, or a related field, with specific experience in reporting under frameworks like CSRD, TCFD, or similar regulations.
  • Certifications: Relevant ESG/sustainability certifications (e.g., GRI, CFA ESG, SASB) are preferred.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in ESG reporting tools, data management systems, Power BI, and advanced Excel. Knowledge of sustainability reporting software like Sphera, EcoVadis, or Enablon is advantageous.
