We’re the largest UK asset manager outside London or Edinburgh, providing innovative investments that deliver sustainable long-term returns. We are seeking to hire an Equity Research Manager into our Leeds-based investment team.

If you are curious, self-motivated, with experience in creating bottom-up investment research for global equities, this is a great opportunity. The role focuses on the Financial Services sector (excluding banks and insurance), including Exchanges, Payments, Asset Managers, Private Equity (listed companies), and Real Estate Investment Trusts. Experience supporting Emerging Markets would also be beneficial.

Our Research Managers produce high-quality investment research on companies in global equity sectors, supporting sound investment decisions by internal Equity Portfolio Managers, fully integrating Responsible Investment principles to achieve long-term investment returns.

The wider investment team manages both internal (direct securities) and external (fund managers) investment products across Public Equities, Fixed Income, Alternatives, and Real Estate. Ultimately, Border to Coast is an investment business, with success measured by the investment performance generated for our Partner Funds.

The role – what you’ll be doing

  • Conduct detailed fundamental research on companies in the Financials sector, generating investment research to support Portfolio Managers in portfolio construction.
  • Evaluate new stock ideas for relevant portfolios in collaboration with Portfolio Managers.
  • Challenge and review research and investment approaches respectfully, sharing insights to develop team capability and investment culture.
  • Participate actively in investment team meetings, company meetings, and conferences.
  • Engage with the Portfolio Risk and Responsible Investment teams to ensure an integrated investment approach.

  • Understanding of financial income, cash flow, and balance sheet models to support investment theses.
  • Collaborative mindset to generate ideas, refine processes, and share feedback.
  • High integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Proficiency in IT skills relevant to the role.
  • Experience in investment analysis and/or accountancy.
  • Keen interest in investment markets, long-term investing, and responsible investment and sustainability.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent, CFA Charterholder preferred.
  • Experience in the Financials sector (Exchanges, Payments, Asset Managers, Private Equity, REITs). Experience in Emerging Markets is beneficial.
