Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to work on automated trading systems, primarily in equities. You will apply strong Java skills to build, deploy and support trading strategies and scalable engine infrastructure within a fast-moving IT/quant/trading team.

The role emphasizes leadership, solving complex problems, and collaboration with global teams to advance platform capabilities, with exposure to low latency, high volume environments.

Qualifications

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple functions or guide junior staff.
• Core Java knowledge in UNIX/Linux environment.
• Ability to translate business and technical requirements into a well designed solution.
• Experience with Git/Stash and Jenkins.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit.
• Interest in developing systems for automated market making or algo trading.
• Experience with REST and TypeScript/Angular.
• Experience with low-latency messaging and KDB/q.

Responsibilities

• Communicate regularly with product leads across the technology organization and discuss opportunities for improvement.
• You will be using core Java development to build and enhance trading strategies and engines.
• The role involves working directly with the global trading, quant and IT teams to advance the platform and the businesses it serves.
• The project portfolio is varied, spanning new and existing algorithm development and improvement of execution performance.
• You will be part of a team involved in the full software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment.
• The systems you work on are high volume, low latency, resilient, scalable and message-driven.
