What you will do
Johnson Controls is seeking an Equipment Systems Application Engineer to support the construction sales team by assisting with pre- and post-sales activities on building systems and equipment project opportunities. The role primarily focuses on executing our equipment business, with the ratio of pre- and post-sales activities varying based on branch type, assigned Account Executives, and customer expectations.
Pre-sales activities include system configuration validation, HVAC equipment and controls selection for basis of design, bidding, application, and pricing. The role will receive guidance from assigned account executives and sales leadership regarding pre-sale needs and expectations.
Post-sales activities involve managing equipment project execution to ensure profitability, accuracy, timeliness, scope adherence, and alignment with customer expectations. This includes developing detailed engineering information, submittals, and coordinating with customers, consultants, service teams, and subcontractors. The position aims to balance customer satisfaction with project financial results and is based in Manchester, New Hampshire, with a hybrid work model.
How you will do it
Provide technical support, selections, and limited estimating assistance during project design or proposal phases.
Assist in developing the customer business case for conceptual solutions.
Support detailed project estimating for final client presentations.
Validate assumptions during proposal and development stages.
Build detailed cost estimates and scope of work in collaboration with Sales.
Assist in preparing proposals and customer communication documents.
Prepare customer proposals and quote letters, including project takeoffs, specifications, RFQ, and RFI processes.
Support Account Executives in achieving basis of design through timely selections, specifications, and document reviews.
Manage project Profit and Loss (P&L) and customer satisfaction for assigned projects.
Execute equipment orders, startups, and final payments following Johnson Controls processes.
Coordinate with branch administration to manage backlog, schedule, and forecast execution up to two years ahead.
Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop compliant equipment submittals.
Follow standardized submittal guidelines, including coil, fan, and chiller selections, ensuring schedule and specification alignment.
Ensure equipment submittals are approved and positively accepted by the contractor before fabrication.
Assess contractual scope and client directives, adjusting project schedules accordingly.
Maximize change orders, perform cost estimates, and negotiate final prices with customers.
Coordinate factory equipment orders to ensure compliance and site coordination.
Generate technical content for purchase orders.
Select, order, and track material and equipment deliveries, coordinating with customers to meet schedules.
Communicate project status, issues, and financial updates to management.
Review vendor invoices for compliance before approval.
Coordinate post-shipment services, including start-up and resolving delivery or scope issues.
Visit customer sites to verify delivery and receipt of critical equipment.
Ensure project documentation complies with contract and company standards.
Respond to engineered equipment and controls questions from customers and sales channels.
Develop and maintain relationships with customers, consultants, and contractors; attend project meetings.
Coordinate customer training with service teams.
Collaborate with the Customer Operations team to address billing and collections, ensuring full payment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Visio, Adobe Writer, and basic Windows environment
