Job Description

At Cellular Highways, we develop advanced, automated high-throughput cell sorting instruments for research and clinical applications.

Role Overview

As an Equipment Build & Qualification Technician, you will be a key member of the operations team at our UK-based manufacturing site in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire. Your responsibilities will include the full build of our Highway1 instrument, along with setup and qualification.

The instrument build and qualification process covers multiple disciplines such as mechanical assembly, instrument optics, laser components, and PCB integration. You should be capable of working with electrical and electronic systems, including fault-finding on electrical gear, digital, and analogue control circuitry.

You will also support other manufacturing activities and R&D related to next-generation product assembly. There may be opportunities for travel to support our products at customer sites.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee electromechanical activities at the UK site, ensuring production timelines are met and issues are escalated appropriately.
  • Lead final testing, setup, and qualification of the instrument in accordance with internal procedures, especially within our Class 7 cleanroom environment.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace following site standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing.
  • Support development of new manufacturing procedures for new products.

Work will be conducted following the Cellular Highways Quality Management System, emphasizing customer and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • HNC/HND in engineering or manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • Multi-disciplinary background with an electrical/electronic focus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with instrument optics and lasers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Methodical, precise work approach.
  • Effective workload management.
  • Team player with proactive ownership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
