Job summary

inspiring vet care’s Scarsdale Vets Equine Centre is seeking an enthusiastic Equine Nursing Assistant to join our team on a full-time fixed-term basis for 12 months. The role is based at our Derby area site and forms part of a friendly, supportive team caring for a range of equine patients.

You’ll work alongside vets and our nursing team, providing high quality husbandry, assisting with procedures, and delivering excellent client service in a busy equine practice.

Responsibilities

  • General husbandry such as mucking out, feeding and watering.
  • Paddock maintenance including poo picking.
  • Handle horses including competition, pleasure and breeding animals.
  • Daily grooming of inpatients and yard cleanliness.
  • Assist with veterinary procedures and monitor patient welfare.
  • Maintain stock of hay, bedding and feed.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Equine Nursing Assistant to join our team at Scarsdale Vets Equine Centre on a full-time fixed-term basis for 12 months.

Scarsdale Equine vets are part of a large, multisite, all species practice with the farm and equine facility based on the east side of semirural Derby. We are a friendly, supportive team with a range of experience from recent graduates to experienced vets and certificate holders, covering all aspects of first opinion equine care with excellent support staff. We have a range of good diagnostic equipment, in house laboratory, inpatient and surgical facilities which allow us to do our job to a high level.

How You’ll Make a Difference

We are looking for a positive and self-motivated Equine Nursing Assistant to work alongside our vets and nursing team to provide high quality husbandry to our equine patients.

Working Pattern

  • 37.5 hours per week – core hours 08.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday – early and later start times and weekend hours on a rota basis

Key Responsibilities

  • General husbandry- mucking out, feeding, watering.
  • Paddock maintenance- including poo picking.
  • Handling a variety of horses including competition, pleasure and young horses and those used for breeding. Communicating with colleagues and raising any issues regarding health and welfare of the patient with case vet or nursing team.
  • Daily Grooming of inpatients
  • General cleanliness yard and stables including following infection prevention and control and isolation policies and procedures, undertaking post discharge infection control procedures and daily and weekly cleaning procedures
  • Maintenance of the yard including weeding and painting stables when needed.
  • Assist with veterinary procedures including trotting up, lunging and holding for veterinary inspection/procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients and adhere to confidentiality and data protection guidelines
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of hay/haylage, bedding and feed.
