Join a leading NHS Trust as an Urgent and Emergency Care Subject Matter Expert. This role is crucial for implementing a new Electronic Patient Record system, requiring experience in emergency pathways and patient handover. Collaborate closely with operational leaders to ensure successful workflow design and implementation. This is a secondment opportunity at B8a to B8c level, ideal for those passionate about digital solutions in healthcare.
The EPR Team is excited to announce a fantastic secondment opportunity to join the programme as our Urgent and Emergency Care Subject Matter Expert.
Our EPR Subject Matter Experts play a key role in the implementation of BHRUT’s new EPR by acting as the subject specialist within their designated area of expertise. They use their knowledge of internal Trust systems and processes to support the supplier and wider programme team with decision-making and the design of new workflows.
We are seeking individuals with enthusiasm for digital solutions, but no need to be a technical IT expert. Your organisational knowledge, experience, and subject matter expertise are more important and are key to the success of the programme.
All SME opportunities will be on secondment at your current band, with terms and conditions accordingly. We expect the postholder to work at approximately B8a to B8c level.
We welcome informal enquiries in advance. All internal BHRUT staff should discuss secondment opportunities with their line manager before applying.
The EPR SMEs will provide subject-specific expertise to support the introduction of an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) for Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT). They will work closely with the Chief Operational Information Officer, Workstream Leads, Workstream Analysts, and our system supplier to influence decision-making for the design and workflows of the new EPR.
Using their expertise and knowledge of existing Trust processes, alongside their ability to build excellent working relationships, they will collate consensus data, facilitate feedback, and influence the development of future workflows within the EPR.

Our organisation is continuously improving, driven by a commitment to deliver high-quality care. We are no longer in special measures, have opened new theatres at King George Hospital, and our CEO has been recognized as a top leader by the Health Service Journal.
We operate from two main sites: KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford, with busy emergency departments serving over 330,000 visitors last year. We are campaigning for funding to transform the A&E at Queen’s Hospital and eliminate corridor care.
Our patients benefit from initiatives like the Women’s Health Hub in Ilford, the Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch, and Community Diagnostic Centres providing over 88,000 scans annually.
Our staff, over 8,000 from 146 countries, are diverse and many work flexibly. Over 400 staff are enrolled in our Ofsted-accredited apprenticeship programmes. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We look forward to implementing an electronic patient record that will benefit both our staff and patients.
