A healthcare service is seeking a Band 6 Epilepsy Specialist Nurse in Leeds to deliver expert care for adults with epilepsy, including assessments, care planning, and providing support throughout their treatment journey. The successful candidate will work autonomously and as part of a team, contributing to patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Candidates should have significant nursing experience and expertise in epilepsy care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Epilepsy Specialist Nurse to join an established service providing epilepsy care to adults across the region.
The service provides expert assessment, advice, training and intervention, supporting the medical and surgical management of patients with epilepsy. This will be carried out via nurse led clinics, consultant led clinics, and telephone support.
The jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care and the setting of standards of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the specialty service.
The jobholder will work alongside the current Band 7 and 6 nurses within the team. We provide information, education, advice and support for those patients with a new diagnosis throughout their disease trajectory. This can be undertaken via the telephone, within patient groups, inpatient contact or outpatient clinic settings. The role requires good communication / organizational skills and close liaison with all members of the Clinical/MDT Team.
The post holder will also work closely with Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Primary care, the voluntary sector and multi-disciplinary team to provide responsive and supportive service to those with a diagnosis of epilepsy. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work collaboratively with all members of the team and Primary care. You will be involved in the development of person-centred care plans and training in order to optimize health outcomes, reduce hospital admissions and improve quality of life of the individuals you support. You will be expected to work autonomously in the role with the support of the other members of the epilepsy nurse team and contribute to research.
The successful applicant should be a Registered Nurse with experience of working with people with epilepsy. The Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or the desire to undertake this course would be advantageous. The successful applicant will be supported through clinical supervision and training to develop further knowledge and skills to support people who have epilepsy. A full driving licence would be beneficial.
We are a team of three specialist nurses based at LGI and working within the whole of LTHT. We assess patients in outpatients clinics within the Trust, in-patient ward reviews, and provide a telephone single point of contact for people with epilepsy. We are a tertiary centre for epilepsy and epilepsy surgery so have referrals from all over the region.

Communication
Maintains accurate clinical and other records using the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trusts documentation.
Support patients and their families communicating sensitive condition related information and ensuring they receive required information to enable them to participate in their care delivery
Liaise with Community Services (as appropriate) to ensure seamless provision of care delivery
Education and Training
Provide training and education of learners and other junior staff
Actively participate in the development of own personal development plan and performance review
Provide education and training to patients and their careers.
Keep up to date with developments, advances within the specialty
Leadership and management
Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events
Work with Matron to promote the development of nurses undertaking the CNO Ten Key Roles as considered appropriate
Under the direction of Matron participates in or leads the development of specific elements of nursing practice, reflecting the CMT and Nursing Directorate business plans
Participates in the setting, monitoring and improvement of standards and the quality of patient care, including those standards defined in the National Benchmarks for Essential Care
Promote evidence-based practice, wherever possible
Engages users and carers views on service delivery and development
Implement policy and practice guidelines specific to the clinical specialty, proposing changes where appropriate
Contribute to policy and protocol development for speciality area
Exercises a personal duty of care in relation to equipment, resource and stock control utilising equipment and supplies appropriately
Research and Audit
Contribute to the research agenda
Undertake audit programs specific to client group, treatments and developments.
Participate in clinical trials as appropriate
