Job summary

Weightmans is seeking an experienced employment lawyer to join the healthcare-focused team. Based in one of the Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham offices, you will handle a mixed caseload for healthcare sector clients and work with Partners to develop the practice.

You will advise on all employment law issues, defend ET claims, support business development and help meet SLAs and firm targets, with opportunities for career progression and mentoring junior fee-earners.

Qualifications

• 6/7+ year PQE with healthcare experience.
• Strong technical knowledge.
• Experience managing your own caseload for healthcare clients.
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, time management and organisation.
• Ideally mentoring/supervising junior fee-earners.

Responsibilities

• Advising clients on the full range of employment law issues including redundancy, disciplinary matters, grievances, whistleblowing, discrimination and detriment claims.
• Defending Employment Tribunal claims including drafting defences, bundles, witness statements and merits reports.
• Advising on change projects, changing terms and conditions and consultation requirements.
• Industrial relations advice.
• Assisting other team members with their caseloads as appropriate.
• Drafting articles and legal updates.
• Assisting with business development initiatives including training and networking.
• Working in accordance with client and internal SLAs; and contributing to team targets.

Job description

Our market leading Employment, Pensions and Immigration team is seeking an experienced employment lawyer primarily to work with our healthcare clients. We advise clients across the UK including some of the UK's largest and best known employers. We believe that the quality of our clients and strength of our relationships with our clients speaks volumes about the quality of the service we provide.

The candidate will be based at either our Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham office. Our team is highly ranked in the Legal Directories and has ambitions to grow further.

As a lawyer in the healthcare team, this is a great opportunity to play an integral role in growing our business, working alongside Partners to drive the practice forward, with scope for career development. You will manage a mixed caseload of employment work, predominantly for clients in the primary care, secondary care and private healthcare sectors and will be responsible for:

• Advising clients on the full range of employment law issues, including redundancy, disciplinary matters, grievances, whistleblowing, discrimination and detriment claims;
• Defending Employment Tribunal claims including drafting defences, bundles, witness statements and merits reports;
• Advising in relation to change projects, changing terms and conditions and consultation requirements;
• Industrial relations advice;
• Assisting other members of the team with their caseloads as appropriate;
• Drafting articles and legal updates;
• Assisting with business development initiatives including training and networking;
• Working in accordance with client and internal SLAs;
• Working in accordance with Weightmans’ values and procedures; and
• Contributing to set team financial and utilisation targets.

About You

You will have previous experienceand a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work.

We also require you to have/be:

• 6/7 + year PQE (although we will consider all candidates who have relevant experience);
• Strong technical knowledge;
• Previous experience of managing your own caseload, preferably for clients in the healthcare sector;
• Attention to detail;
• Ability to multi-task, work to strict deadlines and targets;
• Excellent team work skills;
• Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills;
• Flexible approach; and
• Ideally previous experience of mentoring / supervisingjunior fee-earners
