We are delighted to be supporting our client, a local authority based in Berkshire, in its search for an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to join its Residential and Environmental Protection Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with solid, hands-on knowledge of Environmental Protection casework to join a busy, supportive team and make a real difference to the local community and environment.
You’ll manage a varied caseload covering both reactive and proactive work. This will include responding to reactive service requests and seeing cases through from first contact to resolution, as well as acting as the Environmental Health consultee on planning applications, advising on contaminated land, noise pollution, odour nuisance, light pollution and air quality. You’ll also investigate and resolve commercial statutory nuisance complaints, deal with drainage matters and pest-related issues, carry out Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) inspections, complete private water supply risk assessments and handle Environmental Information Requests. In addition, you’ll contribute to the team’s duty rota, providing a first response to incoming service requests.
To be successful, you’ll bring proven working knowledge of Environmental Protection casework, ideally gained within a local authority, along with experience across the areas above, including planning consultations and PPC inspections. You’ll be confident managing your own caseload and prioritising competing demands, and you’ll have strong communication skills, with the ability to write clear reports and consultation responses.
This is a locum contract running until May 2027, paying up to £60 per hour. On‑site presence is required, although hybrid working arrangements can be discussed at interview stage.
