Job summary

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) seeks an Environments Manager to lead the management of physical and technical environments across development, test, staging, and production. You will oversee hardware assets, lifecycle processes, and incident response to ensure stable, compliant environments that support critical national infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Experience working with IT delivery environments across their lifecycle (development, test, production).
• Experience in environments with controlled change and regulated settings.
• Familiarity with service, environment, or configuration management frameworks (e.g. ITIL).
• Understanding of configuration and asset management principles and standards (e.g. ISO 55000).
• Experience contributing to configuration management activities, including baselines and audits.
• Experience supporting lifecycle of IT or physical assets in hardware/lab environments.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage physical and technical environments from development to production.
• Define environment standards for setup, access, and usage; maintain documentation.
• Lead fault-finding and incident response to restore services and minimise downtime.
• Oversee hardware asset lifecycle including procurement support, tracking, audits, and disposal.
• Collaborate on controlled change and improvements with change management teams.
