Job summary

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) in Manchester seeks a confident Front-Line Team Leader to join our Environmental Enforcement operation. This hands-on leader will guide from the front, setting standards and driving performance alongside the team.

You will manage day-to-day leadership of frontline officers, focusing on performance, officer development, compliance and operational standards to deliver a professional service in all patrols.

Qualifications

• Experience leading frontline enforcement teams.
• Background in enforcement, security or related frontline work.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Environmental Enforcement Officers on daily patrols.
• Monitor performance and ensure operational expectations are achieved.
• Coach, support and develop officers.
• Issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) where appropriate.
• Support officers during challenging or escalated situations.
• Ensure enforcement activity is professional and compliant.
• Review reports, evidence and documentation.
• Deliver team briefings and performance feedback.
• Liaise with senior management and council representatives.
• Maintain a strong front-line presence across Manchester.

Front-Line Team Leader - Environmental Enforcement Officer

Location: Manchester

Pay: From £15.00 per hour

Salary: £35,100 - £41,000 per year, based on experience and performance

Hours: Full-time, 40-45 hours per week

About The Role

We’re looking for a confident, driven and experienced Front-Line Team Leader to join our Environmental Enforcement operation in Manchester. This is a hands‑on leadership position for someone who is comfortable leading from the front. You won’t just be managing from behind a desk. You’ll be out on the ground alongside your team, setting standards, driving performance and ensuring our Environmental Enforcement Officers deliver a professional and effective service. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to‑day leadership of a front‑line enforcement team, with a strong focus on performance, officer development, compliance and operational standards.

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) works in partnership with Local Authorities across the UK to tackle environmental crime, including littering, fly‑tipping, dog fouling and duty of care offences. Using experienced teams, professional training and modern technology, we provide visible, fair and effective environmental enforcement services that help councils keep their communities cleaner and safer.

• Previous Team Leader, supervisory or management experience
• Enforcement, security or similar front‑line experience is desirable
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills
• Confident managing performance and challenging situations
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Professional, proactive and results‑focused
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Full UK driving licence

What We Offer
