Maintaining a clean and green borough with quality outdoor spaces is a key priority for the Council and this post will assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the street cleansing and grounds maintenance teams. Working from coast to countryside across the borough, serving a population of over 109,000 people, boosted annually by several million visitors, the successful candidate will have the drive and ambition to deliver quality services and help develop service priorities.

Responsibilities

Working with the Environmental Services Manager, you will be responsible for the daily delivery of services and management of staff relating to grounds maintenance and street cleansing teams and assist in the operation of the council's cemeteries. You will be responsible for ensuring operational staffing levels and training requirements are maintained in line with budget and that all teams have sufficient levels of competent staff to provide a high standard of provision while ensuring safe working procedures are followed at all times. You will assist with service planning and improvement to ensure efficient and effective service delivery and respond proactively to relevant issues and incidents which may arise. You will be involved in all aspects of people management including recruitment, performance and attendance management and any conduct issues as they arise.

Qualifications

Applicants must have experience in working in a similar operational role, supervising, managing and motivating large operational teams and must have excellent communication skills. A recognised supervisory or management qualification is essential, along with IOSH Working Safely training; a NVQ Level 3 in Horticulture and/or Waste Management qualification would be advantageous.
